Dental implants have become one of the most sought out treatment options for completely or partially edentulous patients. The success of dental implant treatment requires not only right integration within the jawbone, but also a satisfactory outcome in the esthetic zone. To establish harmony, balance and respect of the biology between an implant restoration and the adjacent natural teeth is challenging.  

Implants can be placed using a two-stage or one-stage procedure. Traditionally, a 3-month waiting period after tooth extraction is required for soft and hard tissue to fully heal before placing the implant. After the healing of the socket, the implant is restored with a prosthesis. This traditional protocol has been increasingly replaced by a faster one in which a dental implant is immediately integrated in a fresh extraction socket followed by immediate provisionalization. This one-stage procedure has some significant benefits such as reduced overall treatment time, fewer surgical, less trauma and recovery time and greater patient satisfaction. The long-term success of this approach depends on the achievement of primary stability and the immediate provisionalization must be designed to avoid any centric and eccentric contact during healing time. Immediate implant placement using a flap-less approach has been proven to lead in less midfacial mucosal recession compared to open-flap procedure. Similar benefit has the instant provisionalization of dental implants in comparisson with delayed restoration after 1 year. Above all, primary stability of the implant is the most important factor for immediate implant provisionalization.
